"Before she went to Australia, Trish sent me a mix CD of bonkers pop music she compiled, I never thanked her. Its called Mind Bending Motorway Mix and I want to share it with you, please pass the link on, share it far and wide, it's a little tribute to a {as a friend referred to her today} exhilarating woman. We're all thinking about you James."

2010 Double Scrubble: Have Yourself a Merry Scrubble Day Mixtape

Bringing up the rear is in fact a perfectly likely thing for DJ Scrubbin Bubbles to be doing, except that it is usually accompanied by a subsequent putting down of the rear, or just as likely, some kind of side to side movement.

In any case, these were some of the tracks that moved my body the most in 2010, all of them discovered (or bought on vinyl) for the first time this year, though some be as old as the hills, young whipper bug.

The common thread here is "beat oriented," but I tried to cover some tempo, genre, and nation-state ground. Looking at the mix in retro-vision, three clear influences emerge: Fool's Gold, Mad Decent (run by fellow Mississippi native son Diplo), and the long-awaiting opening of All Day Records in beautiful downtown Carrboro, which caused me to spend a whole lot of money in a fairly ecstatic kind of way. And let me tell you, this does not necessarily result in good record purchases, but which nevertheless was a hell of a lot of fun. The two strange vocoder work-outs at the end were finds from All Day. Sorry, I can't resist mixing them together all the time. Thanks Ethan and Charlie!

One final 2010 side-scrubble: was very happy to see the debut of the new record label Paradise of Bachelors, co-run by my former WXYC boss and local soul authority Jason Perlmutter. Said I Had a Vision was a fantastic first effort from them.
