Night BUzz

I'm totally in the zone tonight. I feel like I'm having all of the right sensory stimulations. I wanted to share what I've been listening to lately in the hopes that others will share a playlist as well. My night buzz zone has been brought to me courtesy of:

1. Yellow Swans - Being There (blissed out rhythmic drones and with all the highs and lows you could ever want...this is a perfect album thus far...i'll have to listen to the 'going places' lp tomorrow night)

2. Mark McGuire - Tidings II (i feel like this guy is massaging my back with a guitar...and it feels like remnants of valentine love)

3. Eero Koivistoinen-The Original Sin (i found this tonight on the mutant sounds blog and it's a gem of a jazzercise record)

4. Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides - Blew In The Face (such an awakening from only 2 musicians...channeling the spiritual tai chi rainturd, lots of one-on-one time with said bearded starbird)

This McGuire album is due for a reissue on Weird Forest records sometime soon...the others are just simply majestic.

Although not part of my evening in space, here's some other releases that have rubbed me the absolute right way lately:

Holy crap, I didn't even know Dr. Demento was still alive, much less about to give a lecture at UNC! I want a three-horned thing and a top hat!

Speaking of hat, Fish Heads is old hat. But good hat. And my number 1 association with the good doctor.

Sat 02/06 Mountains (Thrill Jockey ) / Horseback / Tape (Sweden) / Ghost Hand - 9:30 PM

Mountains - pastoral electronic soundscapes; on Thrill Jockey label and on tour from Brooklyn.

Horseback - experimental guitar/electronics from Jenks Miller (Un Deux Trois, Mount Moriah, In The Year of The Pig) from Chapel Hill. For this performance Bradley Cook from Megafaun will join him for an abstract set.

Tape - lovely sound art duo; on tour from Stockholm.

Ghost Hand - Local performance artist Peter Pendergrass experiments with vocal sounds and droans mixed with acoustic guitar.

Taboo = Maine negative psych rock, bad trip baroom blues.

Collection = Irene Moon + Ryan Martin, dark mid-evil chamber pop w/ projections.

Exciting news concerning our home, the Meadows of Dan, in Carrboro NC.  In February we'll be beginning a series of artist residencies, 2 weeks to a month in duration. First artiste in residence will be Kevin Blechdom, who will be working on an opera during her stay during the last two weeks of February. New Meadows resident Irene Moon has made our house a website:  www.meadowsofdan.org  info will be posted about upcoming events + opportunities at Meadows of Dan, and soonish an application for residency. The cat has a page on the site as well with many lovely photos.

I Die, You Die

Occasionally I try to triangulate the perfect song, measured loosely in terms of how many people, upon hearing said song, would go, "Damn, that's a pretty good song." I think it's safe to say that Cars is definitely higher on the list of perfect songs than, say, almost any given Led Zeppelin or DC Talk track. I love that you can't even see the Tubeway Army in this video, just Gary in his, uh, smoking jacket? I once saw a DVD of a performance where he sang this in a bumper car that drove around the stage. If anyone knows what DVD that is, holler!
